We’ve had another couple weeks of ups-and-downs.
Tim started back on his next round of chemo last Friday. After two different chemo infusions at Kaiser, he was sent home with a pump to deliver a slow release of the third chemo. On Sunday, he went in to disconnect the pump. As in past treatments, this often leaves Tim feeling nauseous . . .

Our blog has been pretty quiet lately. The hard thing about writing this blog is that it seems there’s not a lot of good news. We’ve both been ranging from feeling a little sick to very sick. It’s a mixture of the cancer(s) and the chemo(s). Right now our lives are focused mostly getting through the day.

Mostly, the news hasn’t been good. Tim was taken out of the clinical trial because his pancreatic cancer is progressing despite treatment. Tim’s Kaiser oncologist is now recommending he switch to a different chemo combination. Tim has just applied to enroll in another clinical trial at UCSF which he may be eligible for. On a positive note, . . .

We're getting used to new routines. Mostly we're holed up at home -- alternating between resting, not feeling so great, and occasionally working on our plant photos and database. When we go out in public, we grab our face masks and hand sanitizers. Eating and having an appetite is still difficult for Tim between nausea, constipation . . .

The past week has been up and down. Even though we’re both on chemo now, we each have different side effects to deal with. Right now, Paul has muscle cramps and Tim’s has GI upsets. We do have a few symptoms in common -- fatigue and feeling cold. Our home thermostat is now set at 74. We’re trying to learn how best to manage the comings and . . .

All in all, the last few days have been pretty good. Tim's labs on Wednesday showed that he's back within normal range on almost all the markers. On Thanksgiving, we went for a 2 mile walk, and even managed a mini-Thanksgiving dinner when we came home. (Still pretty iffy as far as food goes, and being cautious about being around too . . .
